About Laura Ige

Singer/songwriter Laura Ige (pronounced eegay), is acknowledged as one of the Midlands finest vocalists. Leading her band, she performs jazz standards, as well as her own material, which she describes as a “melodic fusion of jazz, soul and reggae.”

“I write songs about love and life – some are reflections of my own experiences.”

Laura is a powerful and versatile vocalist. She effortlessly moves from style to style, whilst jazz undertones are always present.

“In terms of my sound, I can’t really compare myself to any other artiste (I leave that to everyone else!), but I’m influenced by Anita Baker, Streisand, Carleen Anderson to name a few. I also love the works of Stevie Wonder, he writes the most wonderful songs.”

As well as working in the UK, she has spent much time performing and recording in Europe, working with the great Dutch producer, Wim Kauffman. She has also worked with BBC Jazz Award and Montreaux Music Festival winner, saxophonist, Soweto Kinch.

Laura recognises the diversity of her musical experiences as being essential to her development as a musician.

“I’m always willing to try new things - I’m constantly learning.”

Currently, Laura works with sessional musicians for her live band gigs. Her band is always a showcase of musical talent.

“I get to work with different musicians, which brings a different flavour to each performance.”

Recently, she has worked with Steve Owen, keyboard player with the late Edwin Starr.

“There are some excellent musicians around the Midlands. I’m fortunate to work with musicians with international profiles. I work regularly with Ray Prince (drums). Paul Beckford (bass), occasionally joins the line-up. Both are formidable musicians and have worked with musicians as diverse as Angie Stone and Burning Spear!”.

Alvin Davis (best selling saxophonist) may also be seen in the live band line up.

Laura is currently recording an album of original songs.

“It’s taking a while but it’s going to be a great album!”

Listen out for Laura Ige! With her distinct jazz-tinged vocals, she has established herself as a genuine rising talent!
